We are organized to see that to protect Utah's animals from suffering. We
work to amend laws & local ordinances. We also have a program called "Don't
Forget the Pets', which is an on-going pet food drive. We want to see that
people don't have to give up thier pets simply because they cannot afford to
feed them. We are curtrently seeking space to establish a pet food bank in Salt
Lake City. The Legislature upgraded Utah's Animal Cruelty Law in 2008, making it
a 3rd-degree felony to intentionallt abuse or torture a domestic animal. There
is an effort now to weaken the law. Rep. Curtis Oda, has sponsored an amendment
to the law which would put 'feral animals' in the category of rodents. Under
this amendment, feral cats, can be shot, clubbed to death or even decapitated
legally. This bill HB 210. Please contact Rep Oda- coda@utah.gov & tell him
that your DO NOT support this and that it is very difficult to distinguish
between a feral cat & someone's beloved pet. This is cruel, barbaric and
archaic
