I create green art by using preserved plant material exclusively: thorns,
seedpods, branches, entire plants, leaves - whatever seems compelling to me.
I consistently find myself amazed at what visual pleasure results from a complex
photosynthesis process that creates the air that we breathe.
Everything in
nature has a certain way it wants to be: manipulation of form isnt effective.
The only thing that works for me is to find it and allow it to be. Singular
perfection of form is a misconception - everything is as beautiful as it is
uniquely itself.
The best I can offer nature is to give its shape a longer
life through a scientifically sound preservation process. After time in the
press, the plant material is removed as a different entity: form and color have
been solidified and its potential as art is revealed.
I use traditional
botanist's low or no environmental impact preservation methods and conservation
quality materials in the final pieces, which results in the long-term integrity
of
the art.
