Chambaware is a completely natural handmade, non reactive burnished cookware and
tableware from the mountains of Colombia. It can be used on the stove, in the
oven, or in the microwave. This low-fired clay cookware provides very even
heat, making it incomparable for soups, rice (makes great paellas), beans,
sofritos, fondue, etouffé cooking, coq au vin or pot au feu, and for simmered
dishes in general. Its natural beauty allows it to go right from stove to table.
This cookware has no harmful effects on the environment.
Chamba Ware is not
glazed: it contains no lead. It is burnished to a shine before firing, then
smothered white-hot in leaves to blacken it, in the reduction process known as
raku or smoking.
When cooking on an electric range, use a heat shield to
prevent damage to the surface, do not clean with a scrub sponge or stiff brush.
Do not place on high heat dry or empty. To remove baked-on food, soak for a
while with soapy water. It will then wipe right off with an ordinary sponge.
