Friends of Ballard Park is an organization that was established to serve as
stewards for Ballard Park, a 13 acre nature preserve in Newport, Rhode
Island.
Friends of Ballard Park hosts educational programs for
area schools, teaching students about animals, plant life, and the importance of
eco systems. Forty-five species of birds were spotted in the park during 2009.
In 2010, twenty-eight species were believed to be nesting in the park.
Friends of Ballard Park also presents free and popular family-oriented events
including the Mad Hatter Iced Tea Party in August, the Pumpkin Tour in October,
the Illuminated Garden in February, and outdoor movie screenings and concerts
throughout the summer.
