Stowe Craft Design Center features furniture and kitchenware made by artists
in their own small studios. Their materials come from nearby sources and are
distributed direct from artist to store. Bill Kreider furniture stands out as it
is created with salvaged and recycled materials from classic American facories
and stores. Salvaged steel from the Bethleham Steel mill, upcycled pattern
pieces from factories and aged planks from closed department stores have all
been incorporated into his furniture designs. Kreider estimates he has
personally saved more than 800 cubic yards of material from landfills. Other
artisans like Jon Spoon & Michael Fisher use responsibly grown and harvested
wood to make jewelry boxes or wooden kitchen spoons.
