The Suncoast Primate Sanctuary Foundation, Inc. is incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation in the state of Florida and is run entirely by volunteers. The primates living at the Sanctuary Foundation's facilities all have unique backgrounds and personalities. Most of them were rescued from deplorable conditions. Some were even abandoned in the parking lot. Others, such as the bear, a former dancing bear, would have been euthanized without intervention. Many of the animals were former pets that became too difficult to handle, resulting in temporary 'solutions' such as pulling their teeth and /or castrating them! Frequently, when these 'solutions' ultimately failed, the pets were sent to the movie/entertainment industry, breeding facilities, or, worse, research labs. A few fortunate animals were lucky enough to have found the Sanctuary where they could live the rest of their lives in peace. We are located on Alternate US 19 in Palm Harbor, Florida, just south of Tarpon Springs.
