  When women choose to have a doula present at her birth, she joins the generations of women who have had female labor assistants present for this momentous event. Today, studies prove that mothers who choose to have trained companions at their side for labor have less operative deliveries, shorter labors, fewer pain medications or interventions, and more positive opinions of their birthing experiences. As a labor assistant, my role is to help the laboring mother fulfill the intended birth plan through labor and delivery with nurturing and gentle support. I believe in a woman's power to birth naturally according to what her body and her baby is telling her. I can be a resource through this amazing journey, but it is the woman who guides the way.
