COMMENT from Danielle on Oct 25, 2000
interesting thought, to not use shells in jewelry because you consider them not vegan. I'm a vegan who makes hemp jewelry and I look forward to going to different beaches to find abandoned shells. Seems to be quite an abundance of them. JUST A THOUGHT.
RESPONSE:
Thank you for forwarding the comment you received. We appreciate
the opportunity for dialog with our market.
To produce the volume of jewelry at affordable prices that Snooty Jewelry
sells, we procure our gemstones commercially from various wholesalers.
It is safe to say that the mother-of-pearl, abalone, paua shell, etc.
offered
by suppliers is at the very least, a by-product of the seafood industry and
not collected from beaches or the ocean floor after being abandoned by
their creatures. This represents a connection similar to the one between
beef and leather.
The proclamation that Snooty Jewelry does not contain shell is not intended
to judge or criticize people who choose to wear shells collected without
harming its inhabitant, but to raise awareness that indeed many creatures
are exploited, and some killed specifically for their shells.
If you have more questions on this or other issues, please feel free to
contact us any time.
All the best,
