World Wise Ecotourism Network provides information about travel to all regions
of the Russian Far East and Siberia. These regions include Kamchatka, the
Kuriles, Sakhalin, Chukotka, Yalutia, the Irkutsk region and others. Far East
Russia has the highest concentration of nature preserves/reserves and is home to
many unique species of wildlife, such as the Amur Tiger and the Siberian Snow
Leopard. The Kamchatka Peninsula and the Kuriles are part of the Ring of Fire
and boast more than 140 volcanoes, the most important being Kluchevskoye. The
Kamchatka region also is well known for its brown bears which are the largest in
the world and its fly fishing opportunities. Lake Baikal is famous for its fresh
water seals and its many ecotrails that surround the lake and are part of
several protected areas. East Russia also offers the opportunity to get
acqainted with indigenous cultures, such as the Nanai, Nivkh, Orok, and Ulchi
who live along the mighty Amur River East Russia is in fact a natural paradise
